FROM THE JOURNAL OF ROBERT FORDSON:

Velomortis

Height: 40 meters
Length: 130 meters
Wingspan: 190 meters
Weight: 15 000 tons
Class: 2

Of all monsters, none are despised by the general public more than the Velomortis. Nocturnal creatures with a foul stench and immeasurable ferocity, Velomortis crave nothing more than to fill their stomachs with the flesh of the living. They can be best described as flying piranhas, traveling in large swarms that can quickly bring down other monsters. The members of the flock use hit and run tactics, swooping in to devour strips of flesh with their scissor-like jaws. A riskier, but more aggressive attack pattern of theirs is to use the hooked claws on their third finger to latch onto the opponent, where they can relentlessly slice into the skin and flesh with their huge talons. As more and more Velomortis latch onto their prey, the beast will be forced to the ground by their collective mass. Many have compared Velomortis to the equally ravenous pack hunters: Masked Serpents; though these flyers are much more deadly. Velomortis are large, and come equipped with incredibly powerful gastric juices that can be vomited up as a weapon. Though they have not quite attained Class Three status due to their subpar durability, Velomortis can certainly withstand much more punishment than the Masked Serpents. To top it all off, they are quick, agile, and cunning. The PEDD has made immense efforts to contain the growing numbers of these monsters, as large packs can quickly overwhelm even the strongest mecha or monster, and there's no telling what disasters could happen if their population were to grow too high.

If you want to hunt a Velomortis, severe precautions must be taken. They come out only at night, using echolocation to find their prey, rendering Red Arrow's cloaking shield and similar devices useless. The most important thing is to make sure you separate an individual Velomortis from the rest of the pack, and make your kill before they take notice. I recommend weapons with tracking abilities; the Velomortis are notoriously agile.

As of now, it's impossible for me to hunt these monsters. Unless you're lucky enough to locate their underground nests, you'll never see find these nocturnal predators in daylight, and the Dark Hunter continues to stalk the Red Arrow. Risking a hunt at night while the Dark Hunter is nearby is dangerous enough. Risking a Velomortis hunt under the same circumstances is suicidal!

Argentinian Axejaw

Height: 85 meters
Length: 210 meters
Weight: 45 000 tons
Class: 3

The top predator of South America, the Axejaw got its namesake for its unique set of jaws it developed to compensate for its weak bite force. The upper jaw narrows into a jagged, axe-like blade where the teeth would normally be. Its skull is thick and dense, covered by smooth, armor-like skin, harder than steel. Its neck is muscular and flexible; its spine reinforced. All for the Axejaw's trademark ability. The lower jaws are able widen at an amazing 160 degree angle, and by swing its upper blade-jaws down like an executioner's axe, the monster can destroy flesh and armor alike!

When hunting, Axejaws will aim for the spine or neck for an easy kill. If in more dangerous combat situations, their flexible neck allows them to twist their head and swing sideways. Being sprinters by nature, their reinforced spine and armor plated head allows for brutal rams and headbutts, where further damage can be dealt by their blade-like horns. They are protected by a lightweight, leathery armor that covers their backside, for protection against teeth and claws. Short spikes adorn the armor, further protecting them from potential attackers. All this leads to a mace-like tail tip, should they be attacked from behind.

Argentinian Axejaws are designed to tackle prey of similar size, and are of no threat to humans. But that hasn't stopped them from being immensely entertaining sport. These creatures attack with savage fury few can surpass, and their armor can be tricky to overcome. Luckily these brutes are of a light stature, with the exceptions of their head, neck, and legs, and their forelimbs are practically useless in combat. I have also found them to be fairly dull beasts. Their skulls are almost all armor, with little room left for brains.

Eloth

Height: 60 meters
Length: 90 meters
Weight: 55 000 tons
Class: 3

Many consider Eloth to be the "bullies" of the monster world. This isn't too far off. Mostly located in Asia, (though they have been known to wander into Africa and Europe) Eloth are one of the few monsters I would call actively malicious. They seem to enjoy brutalizing smaller creatures, and these pig-like monsters have been known to gang up on large Pelerudonts. I have even witnessed one gently grabbing livestock between its teeth, only to drop them from a height that cracks their bones, but don't outright kill them. And I have no doubt they would do the same, and have done the same to us humans. The PEDD has made extreme efforts to keep Eloth away from heavily populated areas for this reason.

These creature are too stocky and slow to be efficient hunters. Instead they use their bullying behavior to steal kills from other predators. They have a particularly powerful set of vocal cords, and use their shrieking howls to intimidate opponents. They will, as noted earlier, even resort to scavenging as a group. Eloth are no slouches in combat either; their powerful jaws and fang-like tusks can cause serious damage, and their hoofs are both large and sharp. Once the victim has been driven away from a kill, the Eloth will excrete on the carcass. Eloth dung has an absolutely horrid oder, keeping other monsters away; though the droppings don't seem to upset the Eloth at all. In fact, they have been known to coat themselves in their own dung to discourage potential predators, as their hide is fairly thin. They also have a reputation for being cowards. If injured enough, they will usually attempt to flee, even if the injuries aren't serious.

At least their oder makes them easy for me to locate. I prefer to make my Eloth hunts quick, so I can kill them in battle before they decide to run away. Giving chase is no where near as fun. On the rare occasion, I have made an enemy of an entire gang of Eloth. Now that's good sport!

Orlashi

Height: 30 meters at the shoulder
Length: 210 meters
Weight: 30 000 tons
Class: 2

The nightmare of all public beaches, Orlashi are responsible for more human deaths than any other aquatic monster, barring Masked Serpents. Orlashi live near the coast, using their long necks to snatch fish, sharks, whales, and other aquatic animals while resting by the ocean on dry land; or vice versa: making meals of anything that wanders near the coast while hiding under the waves like a crocodile. Their lightning fast strikes, needle-like teeth, and long adhesive tongue allow them to quickly and efficiently snap up small prey. This hunting behavior has resulted in the closure of several dozen beaches over the years due to Orlashi attacks. They're also notorious for attacking harbors or coastal cities in search of food.

Personally, Orlashi aren't on my radar when hunting. These monsters aren't designed to fight off beasts their own size, and usually opt to flee, using their frog-like hind legs to leap into the safety of the ocean. If cornered, they may lashing out with their jaws- Orlashi can strike as quick as a viper- or use retractable claws on their hind legs to deliver a painful, but none-lethal venom with a swift kick. But they aren't much of a threat to Red Arrow, or anything its size for that matter. At least this has made battling these man eaters a relatively easy task for the PEDD.

Galeosaurus

Height: 40 meters
Length: 100 meters
Weight: 20 000 tons
Class: 2

The aquatic theropod Galeosaurus, like Solrah, is a one-of-a-kind monster. He is very small for Pelerudont standards, only half the height of the average monster. Looking for all the world like a cross between a shark and a dinosaur, Galeosaurus feeds exclusively on a diet of Masked Serpents. Although similar in size to his prey, Galeosaurus is rather tough for a Class Two monster, and comes with considerable defenses. His skin is too tough for the Masked Serpents to chew through - a hide comparable to that of a Class Four - and his immune system is strong enough to easily overcome their venom. Lastly, he has a venom of his own. Although his skin is normally smooth for maximum speed underwater, sharp quills can extend all over his body when threatened. These quills carry a venom powerful enough to kill a Class Three monster, and bright flushes of color will appear across his back to warn potential predators away.

Galeosaurus is very quick and agile underwater, easily able to out maneuver the clumsy and slow Serpents. However, he's rather slow on dry land. This is why his defenses are so extreme. With little in the way to run or fight back, Galeosaurus would have been killed long ago like many other one-of-a-kind monsters. Me? I have no interest in him. Galeosaurus's venom has no effect on machines, so hunting him wouldn't be much of a challenge.

Sobek

Height: 80 meters on all fours, 100 meters on hind legs
Length: 250 meters
Weight: 130 000 tons
Class: 4

Named after a mythological Egyptian God, Sobek is a very rare creature. While not truly a one-of-a-kind monster, only three individuals have been documented. Two are dead, one killed by the PEDD when it attacked Cairo, the other by Nandi. Although I'm always keeping a look out for the last specimen which is rumored to be somewhere in the Sahara Desert, its likely there are more individuals hidden elsewhere.

Part of the reason Sobeks are hard to find is because they're burrowers. Their spade-like claws allow them to quickly tunnel through sand and rock, where they can and will stay for most of their lives. They don't dig deep, however. Like crocodiles, they will remain just under the sand, waiting for a monster to pass over. Then they strike, using their hind legs to thrust themselves up and clamp their powerful jaws around a victim's throat. Using their sheer size and mass to pin their prey to the ground, they will extend retractable boney spikes on their forearms and "punch" the prey's gut repetitively, absolutely destroying the body in less than a minute. The wrist spikes are tough enough to withstand immense physical trauma.

The specific hunting style isn't the only reason why the so-called last Sobek is so difficult to hunt. The one time I found him, I discovered just how tough these monsters are. Sobek's armored plates are as tough as Pelerudont bone, the strongest substance known to man. In other words, it takes a lot of firepower to break through them. Only Red Arrow's crystal blade had any effect; the armor piercing arrows bounced right off. The scales covering every inch of skin not protected by plates aren't exactly soft either. They're able to take plenty of damage, though they do little to protect Sobek against blunt force trauma. Still, between his armor, club-like tail, jaws and wrist spikes, I wasn't able to take the monster down. I'll be better prepared next time.

Notes: The second kaiju batch is done. Only 4 or 5 left to go, depending on whether or not I want more arthropod kaiju.

I think these guys turned out better than the last one. Sobek was the hardest. All that armor... he took more a while to finish.
